Coffee and meditation?
I used to drink green tea before meditating and could for quite some time, but since I have gotten a new job waking up earlier I have picked up a coffee habit, not just for caffeine but for the taste as well. I used to avoid it, as well as most other addictive substances simply because it seemed too easy to fall back on them. Now that I am drinking it regularly, I have heard from a friend it can throw off your chakras or just irritate you from being able to relax while in trance, and must admit, after drinking some this morning, later in the afternoon, around 8 o’clock I meditated a bit, and it was a bit irritable. I am wondering if this is true, or mind over matter can overcome it with practice, for I do love a cup’a joe, and believe that belief is the key to overcoming most anything of this nature. Any ideas from fellow meditaors?
I have never had a problem with it interfering with my meditation and I try to make time for meditation on at least a daily basis.
If you use a color meditation to balance your chakras, then I would not worry about the effect of coffee on it — green tea has just as much caffeine as coffee but different aromatics.
Try a different form of meditation to counter the effects of monkey mind you are feeling. I find a candle-gazing meditation can help if I am having trouble keeping my focused non-focus.
