What’s the difference between “meditation” and “concentration”?

Every time I ask someone to explain meditation to me, their answer ends up sounding like the definition of “concentration”, except you close your eyes.

Meditation is the total relaxation of the mental state,,to allow the purging of ALL thoughts ,and the cleansing of the corridors of the mind as to refresh and start anew..To attempt to become one with oneself,,for the purpose of total relaxation.. Concentration ,,is the definite mind focus on a subject or task totally,, with the purpose of committing oneself to a positive conclusion.. Total attention !! Both consist of reaching a goal.. However Meditation is for the body ,,and concentration is for an explanation,,which the mind renders.. Distinct differences !! SOLOMON

Is yoga wrong for a Christian to practice?

I have lately become interested in yoga because I am just an overworked, over-stressed, and tired person, and I’ve heard about a lot of health benefits of yoga. But I am also a practicing Protestant Christian; is yoga really wrong for me to do? I’ve heard that it would be wrong because it is a belief of Hinduism or some other Eastern religions. What do you think?

note: absolutely, positively NO offense towards ANYONE is intended. I’m just wondering about your opinions. I come from a very strict Christian family and I think they would frown upon yoga, meditation, acupuncture, etc. I’m trying to figure out what my position is. Just give me your opinions and I really, really appreciate it.

Some have issues with anything that is new or different or misunderstood. Religions that suggest you are your own god or goddess rankle many christians. Yoga for the sake of stretching is a very limited EXPOSURE. As long as yo use it on the physical plane you should be fine. you may not be ready for deeper involvement but that is OK.

anyone know anything about meditation?

Can someone tell me the origin of meditation? this educational need and training is necessary to administer it? please and thank you!

Google Transcendental Meditation's origins. You do not "manage" the meditation. It's something you do or do not. The first respondent is a dork pompous who has no idea of what meditation. Take a bath or even sitting quietly is not considered meditation. Meditation is an activity that you perform in silence. You could try this: light a candle to extinguish the lights, sit comfortably and place of candle slightly above eye level. Focus on the blue flame. Breathe slowly and naturally (do not strain) while watching the flame. drive all thoughts you empty your mind of thoughts. When a property is let you brush. When you think: "Wow, I did not have a thought for like 5 seconds" cast out and refocus your attention on the flame. This is transcendental meditation, its purpose is to transcend thought and make your space between thought more longer. With practice, you will get better. Do 5-15 minutes to start, nothing more. Another alternative is to breathe in a thought you want to adopt the internal quality such as "health" or "peace" or "beauty" and breathe a thought you do not like "illness" or "chaos" or "ugly" to a great start is to breathe in the "awareness" and exhale "ignorance" or "denial". You get what you have that positive thinking is manifested in your life and everything (illness, chaos, ugliness or any other thought) leaves your life without effort. Enjoy it takes discipline, but the rewards are many! Enlightenment is just around the corner!

What can I do to attract positive energy into my life?

I have heard of meditation, and certain stones, and rituals…… But what do I have to actually do to get more positiveness into my life, it seems like everyone around me has problems and even though they are not actually my problems, they seem to be bringing me down? What are some things I can do to have more positive vibes???
Thanks.

energy is for the toaster. seek GOD BY REPENTING and praying for wisdom and guidance..
