Yoga is really exercise?
It is amusing to me that all yoga becomes increasingly popular, even ordinary perception of it as a practice serene stretch and sing "Om" persists. Of course there is a level of spirituality in yoga, and part of the practice are very relaxing, but it can also be hard work. Yoga exercise is exercise.
You just look at the morphology of the spree of celebrity yogis like Jennifer Aniston, Madonna, Sting and see the physical benefits of regular yoga practice can be considerable. Make people think that the laying on the cover of Yoga Journal should be achieved through purely peaceful contemplation, without any physical effort at all? I do not see why or how, but many people still do not see yoga as an exercise.
There are several types of yoga exercises and many levels of classes. Certainly Gentle Yoga ago and Restorative Yoga classes that maintain the practice on the side of light effort limited, focusing on stretching and relaxation. At the other end of the spectrum are Ashtanga, Hot Yoga, and other advanced classes that can provide a good workout for people of all fitness levels.
From personal experience, I can tell you that some exploits of my most intense physical effort, some of sweatiest moments of my life have been on a yoga mat. In the practice of yoga can be flexible, but it also requires strength. Simply hold a plank pose or warrior for a minute or two to understand this. Think about it. Plank pose can also be called top-of-a-push-up pose is a great upper body and heart reinforcement. And the Warrior 1 and 2-up deep fissures with different arm postures. I assure you that when you hold a pose Warrior 5 à 10 breaths, and the instructor reminds you to bring your parallel anterior thigh with the ground, the leg muscles are getting a job and a challenge to maintain a sense of peace. Yoga is not exercise the faint of heart.
Yet I can not tell you how many times I heard comments from friends, family and professional club form indicating the yoga is good only for a section of Nice. The kind of comments I hear most often focused on yoga does not provide the benefits of cariovascular workout or weight of the body. I beg to differ. Yoga exercise, almost all intermediate or advanced class, or even a beginners class which includes Sun Salutations and a series of standing postures in order to provide a cardio workout.
The Breathing exercises can increase a person's heart rhythm rather sedentary, and coupled with the standing poses difficult and flows along a suitable person find their heart rate increases and breathing becomes labored. Regarding the weight-bearing exercise is involved, yoga fits this description well, but instead of weights and dumbbells, yoga uses the weight of your own body. facing downward dog pose requires arms are half the weight of the body as you record a triangle with your hands and feet provide the basis and hips being the point. balances one leg like a tree pose and Warrior 3 strengthen the supporting leg, which carries more than its usual share of body weight.
I am not trying to convince everyone that the Yoga is the only or ultimate form of exercise, but I recommend that everyone try it.

Callanetics [VHS]
$9.98
The Callanetics video itself is dated. 1986 I do believe is the original publishing date. There is no fancy stage production, no fancy clothes and extremely low key, soft, meditative music. I am not thrown off by this and as long as I enjoy something, it does not matter to me. I have always done Pilates and instead of giving me energy afterwards, I was usually so relaxed I would go straight to bed…

Jivamukti Yoga
$15.99
The long-awaited, complete guide to the popular, vigorous American method of yoga that is deeply rooted in ancient wisdom and scriptures “In this day and age of health and fitness trends, it is assuring to know that Sharon and David encourage their students to draw inspiration from the classical texts of Yoga and timeless scriptural sources. What I appreciate so much about David and Sharon is how they help their Yoga students to understand and appreciate the wisdom of all the great saints and jivamuktas who have contributed to raising consciousness. Ultimately, it is Self-Realization, that is the true goal of Yoga.” –SRI SWAMI SATCHIDANANDA Creators of the extremely popular Jivamukti Yoga method and cofounders of the New York City studios where it is taught, Sharon Gannon and David Life present their unique style of yoga for the first time in book form. As they explain their intensely physical and spiritual system of flowing postures, they provide inspiring expert instruction to guide you in your practice. Unlike many books about yoga, Jivamukti Yoga focuses not only on the physical postures but also on how they evolved–the origins of the practices in yoga’s ancient sacred texts and five-thousand-year-old traditions–the psychotherapeutic benefits that accrue with a steady practice, and the spiritual power that is set free when energy flows throughout the mind and body. Jivamukti Yoga, which means “soul liberation,” guides your body and soul into spiritual freedom, physical strength, peace of mind, better health, and Self-realization–the ultimate goal of any practice. Gannon and Life help you understand each of the practices that comprise the yoga path to enlightenment: AHIMSA– The Way of Compassion : choosing nonviolence, respecting all life, practicing vegetarianism, living free of prejudice ASANA– The Way of Connection to the Earth : postures and sequences, breathing, transforming energy, understanding the bandhas KARMA– The Way of Action : creating good karma, giving thanks NADAM– The Way of Sacred Music : appreciating the sacred sounds of yoga MEDITATION– The Way of the Witness : how to sit still and move inward BHAKTI– The Way of Devotion to God : living with love, grace, and peace Whatever yoga you practice, Jivamukti Yoga will help you to strengthen and deepen that practice and lead you onto a path of spiritual clarity and self-discovery. “If there is only one book you read about the practice of Yoga, this should be the one. Sharon and David are deeply dedicated students and teachers of Yoga who have the rare capacity to translate their profound understanding to the reader. This book is for anyone who wishes to find transformation through Yoga. I’m grateful for their work and teaching.” –STEPHAN RECHTSCHAFFEN, MD Co-founder & CEO, Omega Institute From the Trade Paperback edition.

Yoga Body
$8.95
Yoga is so prevalent in the modern world–practiced by pop stars, taught in schools, and offered in yoga centers, health clubs, and even shopping malls–that we take its presence, and its meaning, for granted. But how did the current yoga boom happen? And is it really rooted in ancient Indian practices, as many of its adherents claim? In this groundbreaking book, Mark Singleton calls into question many commonly held beliefs about the nature and origins of postural yoga (?sana) and suggests a radically new way of understanding the meaning of yoga as it is practiced by millions of people across the world today. Singleton shows that, contrary to popular belief, there is no evidence in the Indian tradition for the kind of health and fitness-oriented ?sana practice that dominates the global yoga scene of the twenty-first century. Singleton's surprising–and surely controversial–thesis is that yoga as it is popularly practiced today owes a greater debt to modern Indian nationalism and, even more surprisingly, to the spiritual aspirations of European bodybuilding and early 20th-century women's gymnastic movements of Europe and America, than it does to any ancient Indian yoga tradition. This discovery enables Singleton to explain, as no one has done before, how the most prevalent forms of postural yoga, like Ashtanga, Bikram and "Hatha" yoga, came to be the hugely popular phenomena they are today. Drawing on a wealth of rare documents from archives in India, the UK and the USA, as well as interviews with the few remaining, now very elderly figures in the 1930s Mysore ?sana revival, Yoga Body turns the conventional wisdom about yoga on its head.
