Costa Rica's Caribbean Coast

Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast

Braulio Carrillo National Park, Rara Avis Reserve, La Selva & Sarapiquí, Tortuguero National Park, Barra Colorado & Parismina, Puerto Limón, Cahuita, Puerto Viejo – these are a few of the places to see along the Caribbean Coast. This guide tells you everything you need to know. Here are some review of the full guide from which this one is taken: "Despite the title, the book is not all rafting, rappelling and rainforests. A full 117 pages of the 386-page volume are introductory and background material covering history, culture, nature and, of course, all the nuts-and-bolts travel essentials. Useful, descriptive listings of hotels, restaurants, nightlife, shopping and, true to the title, adventure-travel options fill the remaining two-thirds of the guide. But if your adventure tastes lean toward shopping in the artisan town of Sarchí rather than scaling Chirripo you'll find recommendations too. Peppered throughout the text are quotes from literature, music and popular sayings, from everyone from Gilbert and Sullivan to Martin Luther King and The Beach Boys. All fit the text, and you'll be excused from breaking away from the travel information and thumbing through to see who the Conords will quote next. The book recommends locking your passport in your hotel safe and, when you go out, carrying a photocopy that you've made before you leave home. That advice generates much debate in travel circles, a question of balancing authorities' insistence on seeing the original document with the risk of losing it. In any case, a copy made before departure without that all-important entry stamp into the country would never suffice. But these matters are small and forgivable in a guide packed with such solid information." — Tico Times. "I am here in Costa Rica in an internet cafe and had to take the time to tell everyone what a good book this is. It really gave us everything we needed to plan our trip and now that we are here, we use it to find just about everything. This capital city isn’t much to look at, but it has great restaurants and nightlife and fascinating museums dedicated to gold and jade. You won’t want to linger long in the Central Valley, as it lacks any of the country’s big-name attractions. But there are quite a few day-trip possibilities, including exploring mountain villages, rafting through whitewater rapids, and gaping into the mouths of some of the country’s most accessible active volcanoes. The Northern Plains attract those who don’t like sitting still. After zipping along cables through the misty jungle of Monteverde Cloud Forest, windsurfing on glittering Lake Arenal, or watching the nightly fireworks of Arenal Volcano, you can reward yourself with a dip in the bubbly waters of Tabacón Hot Springs. If you came for beaches, the Northern Pacific is for you. Each has a unique personality: Flamingo’s endless stretch of sand draws sun worshippers; Tamarindo’s nightlife is legendary; Avellanas’s strong swells challenge surfers; Ostional’s nestling sea turtles bring nature lovers; and Papagayo Peninsula’s all-inclusive resorts provide every creature comfort. The Central Pacific area is not just for spring breakers. Drive down the coast to the cluster of small hotels and restaurants at Manuel Antonio. The national park, on a peninsula jutting into the ocean, has the easiest wildlife viewing on the planet. The South Pacific, also known as “The Amazon of Costa Rica,” has rustic lodges in Osa Peninsula that sit on the edge of the country’s wildest region. Hikes reveal toucans and scarlet mac

Yoga Mind and Body has garnered much praise from senior Sivananda yoga teachers worldwide, and this new book retains all the features that made the existing book so successful clear instructions on each pose demonstrated step by step, common mistakes shown and explained, and a list of the physical and mental benefits of each pose together with a fresh, new design; beautiful specially commissioned step-by-step photography of the yoga poses; and a number of added features to make the book even more accessible and user-friendly. A new chapter on The Many Benefits of Yoga gives a fascinating and valuable overview of the ways that yoga can maintain or restore the health of the body. With the help of specially commissioned anatomical drawings, it explains how yoga poses work on and benefit the body, including their effect on different types of muscle and the connective tissue (the vast network of elastic tissue that encloses and connects muscles and organs); how poses can help to stimulate our hormonal system; the vital role they play in calming the nervous system, helping you to relax and deal with stress; and the powerful effect yoga has in oxygenating the whole body, and especially the brain, which needs plentiful supplies of oxygen to function properly. In the chapter Proper Exercise, the yoga poses are arranged in the order you should practice them in, and poses are clearly labeled beginner, intermediate, or advanced, helping the reader to progress at his or her own pace. At the end of the book, in another new feature that yoga students will welcome, there are specially devised programs of yoga poses for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students of 20, 40 and 60 minutes each. The chapters on Yogic Breathing and on Positive Thinking and Meditation provide detailed advice on breathing techniques and on how to meditate. The Vegetarian Diet chapter has also been rewritten, and now includes a helpful transition eating plan to becoming vegetarian. The chapter also includes over 40 wholesome and delicious all-new vegetarian recipes.
