*Is meditation okay for a christian?

I use to do it last summer, as it relaxed me, and made for some pretty psychedelic visuals :P

so the question is, *

abslolutely - Jesus meditated and fasted in the desert for 40 days when he was tested by Satan - mind what you meditate on ; ) - meditate on Jesus word and God’s word - it is a good way to clear your mind

What are the neurological effects of meditation and prayer?

In meditation studies, Alpha brain states are associated with a typical “Zen” meditation, in which the attention is in a state of “open focus.”

It is well known that the brain is an electrochemical organ; researchers have speculated that a fully functioning brain can generate as much as 10 watts of electrical power. Even though this electrical power is very limited, it does occur in very specific ways that are characteristic of the human brain. Electrical activity emanating from the brain is displayed in the form of brainwaves. Where beta brainwaves represent arousal, alpha represents non-arousal. Alpha brainwaves are slower, and higher in amplitude. Their frequency ranges from 9 to 14 cycles per second. A person who takes time out to reflect or meditate is usually in an alpha state.

Dr Tom Collura, President of Brainmaster iNC. has neurofeedback machines that teach you how to shift to different brainwaves patterns at will. I have one of his EEG machines and have done the relaxation training. To suppress Beta and increase Alpha I played a computer game where I make a rocket ship fly higher and faster just by using my brain waves. Whenever I want to relax, like in a violently bumpy air flight, or in the dentists chair I just make the rocket ship fly higher and faster and I am totally relaxed.

Tom has other game protocols to shift a brain to a highly focused state as needed and desired, or into or out of many other feeling, thinking, or action states, such as depression, or anxiety.
Worshippers counting beads while praying put themselves in a similar high Alpha, low Beta state.

Do you ever try to create a “religious experience” for yourself, through prayer or meditation?

I mean, I do think that most people will agree that spending some quiet time and practicing some form of meditation does make you feel empowered and better. Perhaps the people of ancient times understood this as well. My point is do you practice something of this form, or do you choose to do without and do just as well without it?

It needs to be a conscious choice. One needs to choose to meditate, or engage in “right prayer.”

The reason is this: meditation takes energy away from the mind, and directs it to awareness, consciousness. Awareness is beyond the mind, and is connected to the divine, the source, or what ever you want to call it.

Mind does not like to be deprived of energy. So it will come up with all kinds of reasons why you should not bother to meditate.

Do not be deceived!!! Choose to meditate every day (best is in the morning when you wake up, or at sunset) and do it no matter what the mind tells you!

Have you taken the time to your day today to do something for you or simply?

I find it necessary and soothing. I try to spend at least one hour per day centering myself. It is a small amount of time actually only 4% of it. For me, it prayer and meditation often a foot or Eucharist Adoration. What are you doing? What works for you? Peace be with you, Debra Whatever works for you is large. We all need time to recharge and grow spiritually.

I shall, therefore, I. But seriously, I try to take a moment at least daily to communicate with God. I found it even has a sense of humor in me a hand. He can do good things come what appears as bad events in your life if you just let him see it for what it really is. Sometimes I really want to all give a huge hug because He is the great guy you know. Peace to you too, and everyone who reads this message.

Which religion should I sit?

I was born into a family that does not follow the religion and they do care about them. They did what Natural and supported by science or the scientific answer most things. However, I believe there are gods or there that did everything and everything organized us. I do not know which one I choose. They are also inconsistent too. I bought or take things that belong to different religions. For example, I have a Christian cross on a necklace, I have beaded Buddhist meditation, I have a shawl Muslims (although I did not worn) and I even try fasting on certain days of Ramadan and among other things. I do not want anyone to be offended, but I feel I really want to choose a religion to follow instead of trying to track multiple, the greater the risk of offending some people who take the religion seriously, even if nobody said that yet. Please guide me on how I decide.

You theology and then you have religion. Looking for a religion or theology? Do you want a set of guidelines to follow, or you feel a need to worship? In the first case, check the path within nine Buddhism. Far superior to the Ten Commandments, they are all anyone needs to live a good life. In the latter case, sit down and decide what you believe in. There are sites that rate your answers to questions and tell you where you fit in. How about you, or simply believing what you believe, and do what you feel is right and not mucking with that organized religion? There is no reason you can not worship your design of God all by yourself. If you are looking to connect with others who feel as you do …. which may not be possible. Be yourself!
