Methods of Meditation?

Can anyone recommend a good way to meditate?
quick ways?
Mia- thanks for the history lesson.

i’m not a pro or anything…but i do have some taekowndoe exp and the way we used to do it was to stare at a corner and just concentrate your attention solely on that corner while breathing slow easy counting your breaths – stretching, mildly-slowly-lightly actually helps throughout the process – i’d recommend give your legs and back a good stretch, hardwood floors are preferable (or hard surface in general actually, rock is also good since it is nice and cold) and then just stretch, stare at a point, and breath…

good stretching regiment – lower lumbar just lay flat on concrete or wood, and then flip your leg over to the other side of your hip – also, go into a split and then tilt head towards one knee and then the other and then the middle while breathing nice and easy – stretching, pain, and helps put you at ease to slip into a trance

self healing

Might a logical fallacy be introduced into a self-healing system, causing flat nonsense to occur ?

I believe it would to some extent based on the situation and perameters involved but honestly the closest analogy to this would be life itself. Really what other entity is subdued to such randomness and chaos than a human being living in any part of existance as this? The fallacy is in our creators imagination and the system is planet earth is it not? Ok so maybe not in a christians eyes this would all sound like nonsense but what evedince is there of any creator? Imagine a brand new buick in the dealership and a four year old child is in a stroller starring at this brand new car. This child has no idea what exactly he is beholding but he knows it is there right in front of him. Surley it had a creator because no sequence of random generation could concieve this entity. So is this exacting process of life meerley random? Are we just meaningless entities meandering around for however long a period we might survive? If so why the term creatures? Why do we have such little understanding of the complexities found in just our bodies alone? The child in his stroller does not understand this or the mass of metal and glass in front of him. Me well I am as cluless as this metaphorical child in fact my life is nothing more than that. A metaphor for something else. And the word life where did that come from? Really how is it possible to be consious? So in the end nonsense is meerly relative. There is no logic in this fallacy we call life. Thats reality, all relative.

What a better martial art / self-defense to learn: Jiu-Jitsu or Kung Fu?

I want to train in some something that is more reverse Aggressive against them rather than attacking. Although sometimes the attack is inevitable. And of course I want to be able to use the martial art and meditation.

You can learn a lot of jiu-jitsu quicker than Kung Fu. Learn Kung Fu can correctly take decades! EDIT: Re: some messages from other … If you are just learning the techniques of combat, then you are not learning Kung Fu.

what is the difference between meditation and medication?which one is important to achieve the goal of life?

I think of meditation as something wholly natural. You are taking time to focus completely on your bodies needs, therefore recognizing them.
Medication can also serve your bodies needs, but is, I think less natural. Medicines are generally man-made, and therefore can be flawed. Your body was created not by man, so it works exactly as your brain thinks it should. Focusing on yourself brings greater peace than an outside addiction.
I don’t think it is necessary to narrow down the goal of life to answer the second question. I think that just by focusing on peace fullness, you can catch glimmers of what life should be like.
However… from a scientific standpoint, the goal of life is to make more life. To reproduce. If you are not otherwise healthy enough to, medication becomes more important than meditation.
Thank you. That made me think a bit.

Is yoga wrong for a Christian to practice?

I have lately become interested in yoga because I am just an overworked, over-stressed, and tired person, and I’ve heard about a lot of health benefits of yoga. But I am also a practicing Protestant Christian; is yoga really wrong for me to do? I’ve heard that it would be wrong because it is a belief of Hinduism or some other Eastern religions. What do you think?

note: absolutely, positively NO offense towards ANYONE is intended. I’m just wondering about your opinions. I come from a very strict Christian family and I think they would frown upon yoga, meditation, acupuncture, etc. I’m trying to figure out what my position is. Just give me your opinions and I really, really appreciate it.

Some have issues with anything that is new or different or misunderstood. Religions that suggest you are your own god or goddess rankle many christians. Yoga for the sake of stretching is a very limited EXPOSURE. As long as yo use it on the physical plane you should be fine. you may not be ready for deeper involvement but that is OK.

Whats real motive behind dwelling on apostles healing power compared to today?

I know people closeby who have been healed so whats the point on studying and harping on the apostles healing power as if its totally different than today? I know someone who dwells on this and is negative.

I can see both good and bad motives for emphasizing the apostles over those today…. hard to say what an individual person’s motives may be.

One purpose of miracles is to highlight a truth. The apostles truth was somewhat bedrock. Doesn’t mean people cannot be healed today.

John the Baptist was called the greatest prophet up till then by Jesus and John did no miracles. Miracles are not necessarily a measure of spiritual success or greatness. God’s greatness yes
