How do I stretch my muscles tense even?

I used to be very flexible. Age has taken its toll, and I'm close to the point of pain. I did some gentle stretches of yoga routines few old, I used to do. My shoulders neck, and especially my hamstrings are incredibly tight. I do not seek massage therapy, but I want to expand on my own at home. How should I do to stretch these areas (particularly hamstrings and shoulders) and for how long? All the resources you have seen online or in a library you recommend? Thank you!

on the most important thing on the stretch and build your flexibility is never a stretch cold muscle. So, before doing any stretching walk, take a hot bath, or do something where blood flow increases in the muscles. in specific poses; for the neck, gently bring your chin to your chest and if you want to gently push your head down with your hand to other stretch. button for about 5 seconds, then put the head back to neutral. repeat 10 times. Again, slowly bring the head of the neutral position to the right as if you were trying get your ear to be parallel to your shoulders. If you need an additional section, gently use your hand to push the head a little lower. keep it there for about five seconds then return to the neutral position. repeat about 10 times. then switch sides. Do not bend your neck. This will cause your vertebrae to compress and cause more harm then good. for the shoulder, reach your arms straight ahead, then always holding your arm straight bring your chest (as the forearm of the opposite shoulder. hold with the opposite hand for about 10 seconds, then release. repeat 10 times. switch arms. for the hamstrings, putting one foot before the other shoulder width. lift the toes of the leg which is at the front, keeping your heel on the floor, both knees should be slightly bent. slope of the size, slightly lower your torso toward your thighs keeping the tip of the front leg upwards. button for about 10 seconds. Release and repeat about 10 times. then switch legs. recall again. Do not stretch cold muscles. it does more harm than good. Hope this helps.

Meditation is a conscious mental state where our body and mind are purposefully focused and relaxed. Expert meditators swear that doing it regularly, using the right meditation technique, leads to a higher state of consciousness. They say meditation gives you better focus,sharper concentration, and increased awareness, plus a healthier positive outlook.

You don’t have to be mystic, or a ‘guru’ to enjoy the acclaimed benefits of meditation and you can literally meditate anywhere, but preferably where you don’t have to concentrate on driving a car or machinery.

Cosmic MeditationMeditation has many different disciplines and approaches, but the basic fundamentals remain common to all. The ultimate focus is getting rid of negative, wandering, and obstructive thoughts by disciplining the mind to become accustomed to a higher plane of activity. Meditation seeks to get rid of the the ‘flak’ and ‘junk’ that fills your mind, replacing it with more meaningful ideas and thoughts.

Reigning in the mind through meditation, seeks to tune your thoughts to a better purpose; to clean it of rubbish and self-defeating thinking.

One school of meditation requires the removal of all outside sensory stimulation so that exterioir noises and sights are phased out.

Other meditators deliberately focus their mind on some meaningful and important thought. This is not easy because we are all very accustomed to sensory overload in our daily lives. The paradox is that by settling the mind and training it through meditation, practitioners become much more aware of what’s going on around them.

Traditionally, we are familiar with mystics contorting themselves into all sorts of weird positions when they meditate, but rather than jumping in to try yoga meditation, those starting out should simply find a comfortable position to calm the body and the mind. You could lie down, sit cross legged, or even be walking as you meditate; anything that induces an atmosphere where you can both relax and concentrate.

Ensure that your back is straight and that your muscles are not tense or uncomfortable. But, don’t become so relaxed that you fall asleep, because this is a different mind state.

You should dress in very loose, comfortable, baggy clothing that does not constrict you in any way. Many expert meditators barely cover themselves at all; maybe just with a loin cloth.

The environment for your meditation should also be peaceful, pleasant, soothing and relaxing. It could be your favourite room in the house, or in your garden, or even in a warm bath.

Should you be a bit more advanced in your meditation journey, you could consider using an exercise mat. Some people even have a favourite meditation chair. Try some of the challenging positions you might have learned from your yoga or even Pilates class. But, don’t be too hard on yourself. Practice easy positions first and build your meditation approach as you become more confident.

Some people prefer a silent atmosphere when meditating; others like some appropriate relaxing meditation music or recorded natural sounds, like whales singing, birds quitely chirping or water flowing. There are even good recorded guided medition CDs you can use to enhace your practice.

You might also like to have some pleasant incense burning, or even some nice smelling candles, to add to your peaceful meditation environment.

You will need to get instruction about this, but one school of meditation involves chanting, or humming what sounds like a monotonous noise. This is actually a mantra which has a mystic value to the person using it. Meditation chanting is a more advanced technique.

Breathing is an important part of meditation. Yoga teaches us to breath in through our nose, then out through the nose. You can use this tecnique to become calm in stressful situations.

The whole purpose of all these techniques; breathing, chanting, relaxing; is to focus and discipline the mind. Another meditation technique is to singularly focus on a particular object or idea.

A good meditation technique is to calm your mind and then to quietly, without speaking, only thinking it, name each part of your body, progressively focussing your consciousness on them in succession. You’ll find it works very well to mentally visualize each body part as becoming completely relaxed, and without any tension. Some people visualize the tension flowing out of them like a soft flowing stream.

If you are interested in taking up meditation, it’s definitely worth getting some lessons from the experts. Researchers have discovered that the effects of meditation on the mind are extremely beneficial.

Even medical doctors are coming around to the view that a healthy mind leads to a healthy body. Meditation, or disciplined relaxation of the mind, has spin-off benefits to the body’s biochemical processes and organ health.

After all, practitioners have been advocating meditation for many thousands of years and, in today’s frenetic world, deliberate and regular ‘calming of the mind’, through meditation, should be a daily practice for better mental and physical health.

When you take the time for daily meditation, you will be able to control unwanted associations and feelings. This will make your mind free to feel how life can be without feelings of uncertainty, loneliness or incompetence. Daily meditation can certainly help you relieve your stress.

Guided Meditation… How To Meditate For Beginners

This is a guided meditation, meant for beginners, but it is also effective if you know how to meditate.

It is best to ask someone with a calm and friendly voice to read to you the steps in mediation and follow the directions precisely.

Guided meditation can bring you to a peace you may not have ever known in your life before, and being in that peace, all you do, all you wish, and all you are is possible.

Starting
You must do the pre-meditation preparation as outlined in part 1 of this article. When that is accomplished and you are in a quiet place and very comfortable position (sitting, not laying, as if you lay down, you will quickly fall to sleep), you are ready to begin.

Ask the person to begin reading now.

When the reader/guider sees the symbol ↔ they should pause for a moment while you accomplish what you are asked to do.

The symbol ∞indicates the meditation is over and the reader may now stop.

The Guided MeditationCosmic Meditation

With your eyes closed, begin now taking a few deep breaths, holding them for a moment, and then slowly exhaling them. ↔.

Now begin inhaling through your nose to a count of 5 (reader count to five), hold to a count of five (reader count to five), and exhale to a count of five (reader count to five). This must be done 5 times. ↔

Now start visualizing your breath.

See the fresh energetic air coming in through your nose, and going deep into your lungs.

Visualize the spent air, changing places with the new air, and see the spent air leaving your body back into the atmosphere.

Watch the air coming in changing and going out. If other thoughts come to you, about anything else, chase them away, all you are going to think about, and to see mentally is the incoming and outgoing air. ↔

Start now, as you are concentrating on the air to say mentally ’so’ with the incoming airflow and ‘hum’ with the outgoing airflow. Sohum…means in Sanskrit ‘I am He’…meaning you too are made of God, you are His creation, you are made from Him, and you are Him.

Breathe in ’so’ and breathe out ‘hum’. If other thoughts come to you, shoo them away, like a you would a bothersome fly.

Keep you thoughts on the incoming and outgoing air, and with the incoming you say mentally, ’so’ and with the outgoing ‘hum’ So ↔ Hum↔, think of nothing else. Watch the live incoming energized air, and the spent air leaving your body.

All the while saying ’so’ as the air enters your body, and ‘hum’ as the air leaves your body.

You will feel a deep sense of peace, and also a wonderful vitality that each cell, each molecule in your body is energized with the power of the universe, and the spent and toxic laden air leaves you body and takes with it all negative forces that were in you.

Keep breathing in and saying ’so’ and keep exhaling and saying ‘hum’.

Think ‘I am He…He am I’ , for ’sohum’ also becomes ‘humso’ ↔

Ten minutes have now passed.

Take a very deep breathe and hold it, then exhale deeply.

Do this three times. ↔. Slowly open your eyes, and without talking at all, feel the wonderful peace that both surrounds you and is within you. Sit for a moment and enjoy the peace. ∞
