compassion

How do you cultivate compassion without becoming a doormat?

I’m interested in Buddhism and would like cultivate more compassion for everyone. I’d like to become more helpful to people but at the same time I know that there are people around who would take advantage of someones willingness to try to be kind to everyone. My question is this: How do you cultivate compassion without getting walked all over by people?

If someone gets the idea they can get away with just anything, it can cause them (and their friends, family, co-workers and neighbors) all sorts of trouble. Compassion would require that you not enable that situation. But you can go wild with such courtesies as holding the door for someone carrying packages, letting waiting drivers into the stream of traffic, picking up things people dropped and returning it to them, or just paying attention. You will still get cheated occasionally, but it will be so worth it!

Also do the meditation on metta, as described at about the third paragraph of

meditation for children

allowing children to participate in Christian rituals of other religions?

Where do you draw the line at letting your children experience other religions? I mean, would you leave to visit the mosque with their friend? Allow them to take part in meditation Shinto ceremony purification / with the family of a Japanese friend? Allowing a Buddhist friend to pray for them and / or with them? Is that the kind of ecumenical experience positive and teaches your children to respect other religions? Or sacriligous is a jealous God? I know all the tricks in the Old Testament, but what say that the NT?

I draw the line at a ceremony asked my child to abide by a person other than God. But apart that, like going to a mosque or a ceremony kind of cleaning … it would be kewl, and good learning experience.

What’s the difference between “meditation” and “concentration”?

Every time I ask someone to explain meditation to me, their answer ends up sounding like the definition of “concentration”, except you close your eyes.

Meditation is the total relaxation of the mental state,,to allow the purging of ALL thoughts ,and the cleansing of the corridors of the mind as to refresh and start anew..To attempt to become one with oneself,,for the purpose of total relaxation.. Concentration ,,is the definite mind focus on a subject or task totally,, with the purpose of committing oneself to a positive conclusion.. Total attention !! Both consist of reaching a goal.. However Meditation is for the body ,,and concentration is for an explanation,,which the mind renders.. Distinct differences !! SOLOMON

What a better martial art / self-defense to learn: Jiu-Jitsu or Kung Fu?

I want to train in some something that is more reverse Aggressive against them rather than attacking. Although sometimes the attack is inevitable. And of course I want to be able to use the martial art and meditation.

You can learn a lot of jiu-jitsu quicker than Kung Fu. Learn Kung Fu can correctly take decades! EDIT: Re: some messages from other … If you are just learning the techniques of combat, then you are not learning Kung Fu.
